Prayer For Haiti

“I see the king of glory

Coming down the clouds with fire

The whole earth shakes, the whole earth shakes

I see his love and mercy

Washing over all our sin

The people sing, the people sing

Heal my heart and make it clean

Open up my eyes to the things unseen

Show me how to love like you have loved me

Break my heart for what is yours

Everything I am for your kingdom’s cause

As I walk from earth into eternity”

That is the first verse & the bridge from “Hosanna,” the song by Hillsong United. If you want the prayer, “Break my heart for what is yours” to be answered, take a look at these pictures accumulated from the major earthquake disaster in Haiti….

I’ve prayed that prayer many times. Almost as many times as I have sung that song, and miraculously (and I don’t mean that flippantly) what happened in Haiti breaks my heart.

If it breaks yours too, here’s some things we can do about it:

• Pray! If we have the author of the universe within earshot, we should petition him for grace and mercy for those suffering in Haiti. If there was ever a worthy cause for prayer, this is it. The disaster is the worst hurricane to hit Haiti in 200 years, 7.00 on the Richter scale and involves the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. They need God’s mercy more than our help… BUT…

• Give! The U.S. has more than 300 million people. The earthquake that struck Haiti may have caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, but if only 1 out every 6 of us gave only $5 that would be over 250 million dollars! There are so many good resources for giving to Haiti!
They are not only in need of money. My church, Generations Church is partnering with Barefoot Church in Myrtle Beach to help the folks in Haiti through donation of these important needed items:

  • Snack-type food – granola bars, etc.

  • Cereal

  • Peanut butter

  • Blankets

  • Towels and washcloths

  • Hygiene products – soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.

  • First Aid kits

  • Antibiotics

Donations can be dropped off at Surf Cinema on Sunday or at the church office.

If you would prefer to give financially, Financial donations can be made out to Generations Church, with “haiti relief” in the memo line. We will write one check to Barefoot/Haiti. To give online, visit generationschurch.com/giving and put “for haiti relief” in the “Add special instructions to the seller” box.
